Vicky was born in Cambodia. During the war 1975, her family left the country and found refugee in Vietnam from 1975-1980. After the Cambodian civil war was over, her parents decided to go back to their native country. But the economic situation in the country was still very difficult so her parents tried to find a better place to live. They ended up at a Thailand camp which all the refugees who were there waiting for a sponsorship to be able to immigrate.
Vicky has 3 siblings (older sister and younger brother). Vicky was lucky enough to have an aunt living in San Francisco who was able to sponsor her and her family.
In November 29, 1982, Vicky and her family landed at the SF International airport, her heart filled with dreams. She was only 14 years old and started her high school year then. She had a difficult time to learn English but she was able to finish her 4 years high school. She then moved to LA where her uncle had a donut shop business. While working for her uncle she learned how to manage a business.
After over a year half, she decided to move back to Bay Area where she worked for a couple of restaurant businesses as cashier and selling donuts. Finally she become a waitress, as she really enjoyed working with people. Working hard, she save enough money to buy her own place with her family, which is now the Cable Car Cafe in SSF. She started the business with her younger brother but after 10 years, he left. She owns and manages the restaurant since November 16, 1994. Cable car cafe is loved by everyone, offering great dishes to the diverse community of SSF! She has great employees that work together as a wonderful team!
